Nishi Asakusa's Kappabashi is well-known to tourists as a place where elaborate and realistic food samples seen in restaurants can be found. One such shop "Ganso Sample Shop" celebrated 3 years since opening its "Kappabashi showroom".

In 1932, the shop was established as Iwasaki Manufacturing, specialising in the fabrication of food samples. In 2010, the company embarked on a mission to "spread the possibilities and wonders of food samples throughout the world". Encompassing this values, the shop established a showroom where visitors can experience making these products.

"Delighting and surprising people through food samples" as a concept calls upon the creation of realistic replicas of dishes prepared by professional chefs for restaurants. Lifelike bacon and pancakes bring "an inexplicable grin" to those seeing it with curiosity. President Mr. Yamashita echoes this sentiments by saying "Hearing astonished voices is something that makes me happier than anything else". As all products are hand-applied in terms of design and colour, essentially they are all hand-made. Factory staff attending development meetings have shared their eagerness to "offer a wider variety of products".

In the showroom, samples made of clay are able to be experienced by visitors. Visitors learn to create samples of tempura and lettuce. A visiting junior high school student remarked beamingly: "It is not something I usually get to experience, it was great fun". Kits for home crafting use are also offered.

Products offered include: Sample Shoyu Ramen (2,880 yen), Napolitan (2,057 yen), Pancake with strawberry (3,456 yen), Sushi magnet (1,296), among others.

Business hours are 10:00 to 17:30. Food sample fabrication experience requires prior reservation. (2,160 yen).
